There's a bit on the AAC forum. From what little there, sounds like prices were pretty low.

Though dry-charged, I can't imagine any new battery that old would hold up for very long, even if successfully activated.

Such NOS batteries might be worth purchasing to use as a "plug" to make a mold to produce affordbale faux covers for some other more reliable and affordable battery.

Yes it is, and it's a tough path to take to have a stunning show car and at same time put that kind of mileage on it. Congratulations to you on that effort, I know how difficult it is.

I was reading a previous post in this thread about the almost one volt drop between the battery and the tail lights. That seems way too much. I think either there are bad connections or the wire size is way too small. I think the in line connectors can be dirty and/or corroded causing the excessive voltage drop.
A good ground connection between the engine and the frame of the car is also important.

Bob, The wiring is a new factory correct harness installed less than 5 years ago. All connections are clean and bright. There is an additional ground strap from engine to frame. From my experience with adding halogen lights to my moderrn cars a voltage drop of 1 volt is not unusual in fact a drop from 14 volts (alternator voltage) to 11 is common with original wiring on some modern cars. I used relays and 10ga. wiring to rewire the headlights on my Volvo and the same when I installed halogen headlights on the Packard. I suspect that the resistance in the light switch and the long run of wire from front to back is the cause for the voltage drop. If others on this forum would check the terminal voltage on the tail light sockets it might make for some interesting results.

Johannesburg is in the southern hemisphere where it is now winter. The average high temp in July is 61 and the low is 39. So a cold winter could be really chilly down there.

Sounds like the temperatures we are having up here in northwestern Ontario this "summer?" although it is supposed to get to 86F today. I haven't seen any American tourists with skis on the roof racks this July and August though as in other years. My wife grew up in Estcourt and Pietermaritzburg Natal Province SA and it apparently gets cold enough in winter for frost to form on occasion. Now she puts up with our -40's.

I assume that the 38 Super 8 is the same as the 37, in which case there is no plug in the end of the shaft. Just a slight restriction. Can't seem to be able to upload some photos for. Will get Mal to do it when he gets back next week.

I think an Optima would be cheaper and a hell of a lot more effective than this: Delco Battery

And this: Delco Battery #2

Apparently, the starter, ignition and blower motor aren't polarity dependent.

Heater blower is only questionable one as some have said it runs backward, other say not.

The truth of the matter is that the starter motor is a series wound motor (Rotor and stater windings in series with one another) and will turn the same direction regardless of the voltage polarity. The blower motor is a shunt wound motor and IS polarity sensitive. It will run backwards when the polarity is reversed however the squirrel cage blower part of it will still supply air in the same direction just not as efficiently. That is probably why some people believe the blower motor is not polarity sensitive. As far as I know the ignition really doesn't care which way the battery is connected. The charging system surely is polarity sensitive.

Just place cables in proper order and repolarize regulator per instructions.

As far as I know you are polarizing the generator not the regulator.

So mine has two driving seasons and about 2000 miles on the car and it still looks brand new. That's a pretty good testament.
