Rusty, congratulations on the "new" Patrician. Beautiful automobile, black works well on these cars. Also like the look sans fender skirts. Personal preference, that may not be shared by others. Please keep us posted on your bonding experiences.

Congratulations. Among the 51-4 models I think the 54 Pacific and Patrician have to be at the top of my desirable list. All the refinements of the previous models and just the right amount of side trim and interior changes to present a fresh version of a dignified and reliable car. Does yours have the Gearstart Ultra or the regular?

Thank you for your kind wishes. It happens there is an 86 Cadillac with wire wheels for sale cheap about 50 miles from here so the open wheel wells may be sporting wires. The top expert assures me they will fit. Something that may be worth keeping in mind, if you have a senior Packard and like wire wheels.

Randy - Wire wheels on the Patrician would look outstanding. I paid 3/5ths of that for a nice set of wire wheel covers. Go get 'em.

No Patrician, just wire wheel covers for the Avanti.

On the Ultramatic question - is there a simple way to tell the GS version? Is it marked on the shift quadrant? Have not brought the car home yet but will register it when I do.

Later - looked it up and apparently the GS quadrant has a dot between N and D. I don't think my car has it. Maybe just as well as I hear the older version is more reliable?
