I will see if i can get pics next time i get the Dragon out.
when my uncle built the dragon he used the packard flywheel, the offy adaptor and the ford bellhousing/clutch arm. it uses a chevy clutch disc, with a borg & beck pressure plate. ford throw out bearing. and yes the packard lower housing and starter are used. all the clutch pedal and linkage is 51-54 pieces that were modified to fit. it looks kinda rough as all he had to work with was a cutting torch and a welder. but it works great!.

Drp.

Are you a member of Mid-America Packards? Regardless of that, at one time Bob Aller and i had a lengthy discussion about the two buildings. you are correct to remember the second being more modern with "packard" carved into the stone above the front door. best as i remember the story, Hallmark bought the building after it was no longer a chrysler dealership. they used it for several years then tore it down. the very first info and photo i saw of the building was a story by, i believe the Kansas City Star about the building being torn down. The photo was of the "packard" stone laying on the side walk in the midst of the debris. i'll have to see if i can find that article. it may be with my Data Plate news leters.

ok here's the deal Jack, i absolutely know nothing about ford flathead v/8 trannys. all i know is that the Greendragon has one of the "offy" adaptors for a flat head ford v/8 bolted to it, that has the tranny from a flat head ford v/8 powered 47 ford school bus bolted to the back of it!

i did not catch the fact that you were talking about the "ford" built 3spd car tranny. if i had, i wouldn't have taken any offense! i just would have said "early ford TRUCK trannys will live though"

And i agree, It IS the BIGGEST PITA to shift that i have ever driven! How mine uncle(s) managed to drag race it successfuly, is beyond me!

And BTW, thanks for tell'n us it's a t9 b/w. i'd have never known!

JACK:

Might be nice as a wall decoration, but not to use. A strong Packard V8 will eat an early Ford transmission like popcorn. BTDTNA. The Borg-Warner T85 is three times as strong as the early Ford V8 transmission and has overdrive besides.

SERIOUSLY?? then i guess the early ford transmission in the Greendragon is JUNK? i would have thought that if that was the case she wouldn't move after 44 years of drag racing and dayly driving.

HUMMM she still shifts fine and has all forward gears
and reverse. seems to run down the road real nice too!

Agreed, that spot is ALWAYS real close. a problem i have seen time and again, was that if someone had ever pulled the engine or tried to jack it up they ALWAYS bent the linkage cause it hit in that location.

Craig, 55/56 use the same connection for the pedal. infact i think the pedal is the same 55 & older on the btv cars with only the 56 pedal different.

Hey Packardv8, another edit for your above post:

I'm trrying to figure out how much the engine drops over the years and compression of mounts for throttle valve linkage geometry change and...

since the cross-shaft for the t/v pivots in the brackets mounted on the back of the heads, condition of the mounts will NEVER affect the geometry! in fact, due to the design of the t/v linkage i can't think of anything short of major collision damage that would! if the cross-shaft mounted on the body, then yes i could see mount issues being a factor.
