Dear FPT:
38 Eight as in monobloc. Factory picture shows shiny black which no doubt burned off in the first mile. The intake manifold will not get hotter than the block except around the heat control valve. By 1940 they were just washed with a dull cover coat.

Eastwood sells manifold paint. Take a look at their stuff, you might find the right colors for your '38 Eight. The gray exhaust manifold paint works very well, and when seasoned in looks like new cast iron.

Talking of grey exhaust manifold paint, POR-15 also has that.
