Hi everyone-

I recently acquired a "LOT" of cars one of which is a 1934 Packard 1100 Sedan. It was restored in the 70s and had the motor rebuild in the early 2000s. It currently runs and drives without issues. I can't keep it, but What I would like to know is what a realistic value would be. I have looked around the Web and found very little on the 1100 Sedan pricing. I have attached Pics of the car. Any help would be appreciated.

William, I feel qualified to respond to your question as I've owned an 1100 for more than 50 years and kept in touch with many other owners of the same car. I'm often aware when one changes hands. As you probably know the 1100 is the volume sedan in the Eight model lineup, the only body style offered on the 129" wheelbase. Off course all the '34 Packards are CCCA Full Classics. About 2500 1100s were produced and perhaps 100-125 surviving today. Two or 3 change hands every year but these are usually private sales so actual selling prices are generally not public.

A reasonable range, supported by NADA values for 1101 sedans, is from perhaps $20k to $70K. At the upper end its the rare (if it even exists) nearly perfect example. I'd put the value of yours near the lower end for reasons of what we know and what we don't know. With the exception of the missing metal sidemount covers (nearly impossible to find) the car seems complete. The paint looks old and tired, carelessly done, and though a person opinion, the colors are not those that best present the car. I could see no evidence of the correct pinstripe. Some upholstery has been redone and I see that the headliner has been done incorrectly, no doubt to save $ as the original is more complex. Tires look old and worn. And what we don't know - mechanical condition, maintenance history, etc. How many miles since the engine rebuild? If the engine remains in excellent internal condition that would up the value significantly, ditto for all the other mechanical and electrical systems and assemblies.

Thank you for the information. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated! Everything you assumed is true. The car was brought by the PO sometime in the 70s and use mostly for local car shows in VA. I have documentation on the engine build (what was done and cost) from 2002. The car was driven roughly 2k since the rebuild. It has sat for a couple years in a garage, but The PO had oiled the cylinders and drain the fluids. All I did was add coolant and fuel, cleaning the dual points and it runs, steers, stops great. I'm interested in selling it, do you think the 25k-30K is reasonable? Also do you have a recommendation on the best way to find an interested party i.e Ebay, Auctions, etc

In all likelihood it will not prove to be an easy car to sell. There is currently a '34 1100 for sale in NJ that's gone unsold for a year or more (though overpriced IMO). And last year a really exceptional one priced very attractively took some months to sell.

The huge majority of younger folks who now find themselves with enough disposable income to enter the hobby will want something far newer, certainly post-Korean War. And of the older set who grew into the hobby when interest in these cars was at its peak, many of them are now approaching or exceeding 80 years of age and looking to dispose of such cars. So patience will be the key! I'd think you might start with an asking price of $35K as some negotiating is always expected. Probably the biggest arguing point for a lower price will be the paint job.

You could start by placing an add in the Classified "cars for sale" on the Packard Club website (http://www.packardclub.org) and if you're a member, take your free add in their monthly newsletter which reaches about 3500 folks worldwide. There is also a Wanted and For Sale section on the forum associated with The Packard Club website. Posting on Hemmings which also sees a lot of action. I don't see the car as being a particularly good fit at any of the better-known auctions.

I'm not sure I have the data on your 1100 in my database and I'd appreciate it if you'd send me a PM with the vehicle number, motor number, and body serial or "theft-proof" number. Selling dealer and date of sale would also be nice to know.

Owen is absolutely correct. I agree with his value assessment, as well. The plus is that it has sidemounts, as opposed to the standard rear-mounted spare, which makes it more desirable for touring, as you can add an accessory trunk to the back.

I really feel, though, that the true value is closer to $25,000. Tom Laferriere has a similar car for sale, a 1932 model. Much nicer condition, better color, authentic interior, and ready to go. He's asking $32,500.

Yes, I was thinking about a sales price of about $27,500.

My first Packard was a 1934 Super 8, 7-passenger sedan, so I follow that year.

Owen could not be more correct about the paint scheme hurting the value of the car. When I saw the tan/brown/orange combo you did not have to tell me it was re-painted in the 1970s. That was a very popular color combo for Ford model A's to go along with your powder blue, double-knit, leisure suit when you went to the discotheque.

This is a perfect example of why you should not stray from the standard color schemes offered by Packard back in the day. Thank you for the information. I got it as part of a packaged deal, and not looking to get top dollar. I would rather it go to someone who wants it and will take care of it in the low 20s-30.
