The best place to get accurate information about the correctness of a part is from the company that sold it to you. Posting if something was correctly supplied befroe asking the seller puts a question in the minds of other forum members and certainly does not help the reputation of the seller. Throwout bearings have ID's down to the .001 of an inch, nobody seeing your photos can see the dimension.
Yes you press off the old one and press on the new one. Look on the front bearibng cover of the trans (held on by 5 or 6 bolts) and you will seee a little loop, that's where the spring atttaches. when you removed the trans you had to take the spring off that loop

And if the loop is not there or possibly broken, some bellhousings have a small hole on the passenger side of the large transmission hole where an ordinary 3/16 clevis pin inserts. The head of the pin is recessed and held by the transmission being bolted over it. The spring loop goes in the hole in the pin. Gusha's drawing shows that arrangement and you could duplicate it if the cast loop is missing.

Guscha and HH56;
Thanks for the picture and description of the 3/16 clevis pin - that is the arrangement that I have, with the small hole to the passenger side of the vehicle in the bellhousing. Looks Like I'll have to source a 3/16" Clevis pin as it seems to have been lost. fredkanter, It was not my intent to cast doubt about Kanter's parts. What I should have said was something to the effect of "This part looks a little bit different from what I have, do the new replacement parts look a little bit different from what I am replacing like these pictures show?" Also, again my fault for not being clear, but I got the car in pieces, so I did not actually take it apart. Hence my rather naive question.

If the pressure plate is out I hope when the clutch was disassembled someone followed this procedure and placed the nuts behind the fingers. Maybe not as big a deal on other engines but on the senior 356 it will make life a lot easier when replacing the pressure plate if you use nuts to block the release levers first so they do not stick out or the spring tension and extended pressure plate doesn't force the assy back. It is a pain to get the nuts in position with the plate off the flywheel and everything under spring tension but you will find a lot of interference with the bellhousing and throwout fork or linkage if the levers stick out. It is also a good idea to tie the nuts together on a loop of string so if one falls out of position and drops inside you can retrieve it.

Good afternoon...Fred most likely has the clevis pin that you need. Often times when we take one of these old girls apart...the owner before us used an incorrect part and so we need to be knowledgeable that the new correct part may look a bit different than the old one that came with the car. Ernie

Here are the specs on the clevis pin. Diameter to fit the hole is probably the most important dimension and anything approaching the given length should work. You can probably find it locally but if not, McMaster-Carr has a 3/8 length and Kanter or Max may have the factory item.
