G'day Jason,
to PackardInfo. If it's OK with your "best friend, John and his family" would you be able to include both the '30 and the '58 Hawk(in your other thread) in the Packard Owner's Registry? Have to ask, is the blown V8(BBChev?) intended as a heart transplant for either of these cars? BTW - Great pic's!

Nice project car. Any chance you could give us the full vehicle number and the embossed number on the firewall (the body dash or thief-proof number)?
PS - the roof isn't vinyl, no such material at that time. It's a rubberized cloth, still very much available when the time comes.

River Pirate, that looks very similar to my 733 sedan though I suspect it's a 740 due to the larger engine. What is the wheelbase of your car?
Let me know if you hit any brick walls with the restoration, I have mine torn down to the frame right now and am starting to put it back together. Your car appears to be in a bit better shape than mine. Todd

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Oz, I will get him to fill out the Registry... and the BBC is for the Top Fuel Hydro drag boat...
Owen, there is nothing else on the firewall. This is the only info we had... but I was just told this about her... Quote: What I have is a Packard Model 726 with Body Style 403. 1930 was the 7th Series for Packard. It is a 127.5" wheel base with a 318 CID engine with 90 hp. There were 15,731 produced. Drives nice at 45 mph tops. It will do 50 plus but she is really winding at that speed. There is a 3 speed trans, 4 if you count the low low granny gear. And thank you tfee... I will keep you in mind...

...and the embossed number on the firewall (the body dash or thief-proof number)... Dave, it has been overlooked amidst all the great photos but pictures of the thief proof number and the body type number are there (below a copy). The patent plate with VIN number is missing. Attach file: (22.70 KB)

It looks like your engine is from 1932. Can you post the numbers? The number should be stamped on the top of the front left-hand "horn".

There is no other plate on the fire wall... Someone must have removed it...
And the motor is pinned up against a wall, on a palate, but I did not see any numbers on it, either... but I will have to get a better look... <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5914.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5914.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5908.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5908.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5909.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5909.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5910.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5910.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5911.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5911.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5912.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5912.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/?action=view¤t=IMG_5913.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i989.photobucket.com/albums/af13/ghostpirte/30%20Packard/IMG_5913.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Is it possible that the stripped block I see next to the pallet is correct for your car? It has the 90-degree exhaust ports on the head, as opposed to the 45-degree port on the one you're focused on. The one on the pallet is definitely for 1931 or 1932. It may work, but not correct. It's also possible that the crankcase (where the numbers are located) is the original, with the updated block on top. Here is where the numbers would be:
