Today, Sunday 5th July, PACA's monthly run was to the Australian Motorlife Museummotorlifemuseum.com.au/ at Kembla Grange about 100 kms south of Sydney. Only 5 Packards made the journey, including the "maiden voyage" of PackardInfo's packard34 Mat in his '55 Caribbean. The link below is to the Picasa album of pic's I took today and although there were no Packards at the Museum there were some very interesting cars there.

Lots of fun and lots of nice cars but for me the star attraction was something I had never seen before. A "Stick Insect" .....about the size of a human hand.

Mal, thanks for sharing these photos with us. That is an interesting outside rear view mirror on Ed's 120C Sedan. Do you have any information on it?

Gee, maybe I don't want to meet his father
The Delage was magnificent....supposedly a guy paid a 100 grand for it to be in his daughter's wedding but then they wouldn't let him park it in front of the Opera House so it didn't get used in the wedding (something tells me that family has money). The Auburn was beautiful but it must have been restored by a guy that was 4 foot 9 because no normal size person could fit behind the wheel and drive it.

The mirror was on the car when purchased by us in 1996. Rang the previous owner Ken asked him what the history of it was. He said that he fitted the mirror himself, that it did not come with the Packard when he brought it. It is a WILBRO brand & was originally designed to fit with a clip around the outside of the door but this was not suitable in this case. Ken drilled the door and fitted it as per the photograph. He then attached a Packard crest to the back of the mirror. (Ask the Man who owns one).

Much as I like the appearance of sidemount mirrors, their utility is pretty limited; 34 and back when door hinges were still exposed, the Packard accessory hinge-pin mirros are both authentic and effective (see picture), and in 41-42 there was a very functional side mirror that mounted on the cowl panel between the door and the hood but between those years I'm not aware of an authentic side mirror option. Someone want to browse the accessory catalogs and see if anything was offered?

Mal, thanks for the description. It looks nice, but drilling a hole in the door is probably something I will not do, even for this appearance. Take care.
