setting valves on a 359

Hello all!! Just bought a 1954 Patrician. Can someone tell me how to adjust the valves. I set them on small engines, chevys, and fords, but when I pulled the valve covers on this 359, I'm kinda dumb founded. I probably should invest in a shop manual. Thanks for your help in advance. There's just something about these Packards. Brian.

No adjustment, they are hydraulic lifters. And yes, you should invest in a shop manual.

You can download the service manual from this site. If you want to get a paper copy, repros are readily available.

The 359 has hydraulic lifters so there is no adjustment and should require none. If you have noise, it could be dirty oil or lifters, damaged lifters or low oil pressure. If the engine has been sitting a long time and just recently restarted, all of the above is possible. If the history is unknown or it has been a long time since any service it would be a good idea to drop the oil pan and clean all the sludge out of the pan and also ensure the floating oil pump pickup screen is free and clean.
