can someone help me w/ the wires going to a coil on 49 limo? I have 1 larger yellow wire and a smaller greenish? wire - the one from the ditributor. then there is 2 from the generator - the wiring diagram I got off this site only shows 2 wires to the coil. where and what do the they all hook up on the coil -- Pos or Neg screws - I thought I drew these out when I took the coil off to paint the engine!!

That's interesting. There should only be the 2 wires on coil-- yellowish from ign switch and the other to the dist. The yellow would go on the neg terminal.

Should be 3 wires off generator, 2 going to voltage regulator from A & F and 1 ground going to a screw near or at headlight junction block on L fender.

Are the wires from the temp and oil sender still hooked up properly?

Anything else and probably someone has added something--maybe an electric fuel pump or something needing a switched source?

This is from a '54 diagram. But it should be almost exactly the same as not much changed as far as the ignition and charging system is concerned.

G'day tg,
to PackardInfo. See you're already getting some advice from the friendly Packard people here so, after your problem is fixed, I invite you to include your '49 in the Owner Registry here together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it.

That's interesting. There should only be the 2 wires on coil--

There would be a 3rd wire if it was overdrive equipped, wouldn't there be? The momentary kickdown coil kill wire?

Owen_D you're correct. Forgot all about that possibility.

It would be a greenish with black tracer wire coming from kickdown switch and connecting to same + terminal as one from distributor.

Now to figure out the generator & am a loss unless they're the temp or oil senders.
