Do you have the insulator block between the carb the manifold?
Wonder if the fuel is boiling in the carb, not in the line.

Well, I haven't heard of an insulator! And I know
there isn't one on this engine. Is there a picture, or can you describe it and material it is made of? Thanks!!

They were not used on all cars but with today's gas, even if not there originally adding one might help. Later carbs had one made of a phenolic like heat resistant material which varied between 1/8 and 1/2 thick. Shaped exactly like the carb to manifold gasket.
Max shows several for different 35-40 carb bases under group 9.113. His appear much thinner so maybe they were made of a heat resistant gasketing material then. If nothing ready made to fit your carb, one could probably be fabricated out of some modern resistant material. Several places also sell various high temp phenolic sheet materials in various thicknesses. Attach file: (15.65 KB)

Some models also had heat shields around the fuel pump, many of which were discarded over the years as "not needed". Some models also had insulator blocks between the fuel pump and block, and they also used heat insulating sleeves around the 2 mounting bolts. Not sure how much of this applies to your model but a quick browse of the parts book will tell you. This is all assuming your problem is vapor lock which it may or may not be.
Another thing to do, put a vacuum gauge on the intake and check your vacuum at idle - should be between 18 and 21 inches of HG for an engine in good condition without vacuum leaks. If low and the engineis in apparent good condition, check for vacuum leaks. While the vacuum gauge is attached, adjust your idle mixtures on the carburetor. Is the air filter clean?

Thanks Howard, Owen, Bigkev, and all
I appreciate the info. Just heard that the BP station nearby has leaded fuel (w/o ethonol), more expensive, but maybe worth it. Engine stalls with or w/o air filter on. Thanks again!
