Guscha it looks like that car was heavily influenced by General Motors styles of about 1953 to 56. I see hints of Cadillac, Buick, and even Oldsmobile 98. But it does not look like a copy of any one car.

While we are discussing who copied who, the Americans kept a close eye on European styles in the 50s. The 1953 Corvette was a fairly direct steal of the "barchetta" style originated in Italy but copied by many sports car makers throughout Europe. No doubt there are other examples of US automakers copying Europe, and Europe copying the US.

I don't know of anyone copying a Soviet car though.

Gerd,

Congratulations on "batting 1000", a significant milepost and dare I say you'd be the quickest to reach that mark. I look forward to your contributions and the extra dimension they add to the Site. Keep 'em coming!

For you World's Fair fans, the Belgian Atomium is still there. In fact it was restored just a few years ago.

Guscha there is another interpretation of the V8 in the old Z 110. It is common practice to change one component at a time for evaluation purposes, and to install a new engine in an old chassis for testing during the development process.

As usual I have not looked at your whole thread, I just don't have the bandwidth. But the part I saw was interesting.

Re that 1946 photo of the maroon car. Did Soviet mechanics really wear their hair that long in 1946?

The air vents in the headliner look really slick. I wonder what shape the ducts are and how they are run. I wouldn't think there would be much room between the headliner and the roof insulation.

These roof ducts are very similar to the ones used by Cadillac, Buick and Oldsmobile for their factory air conditioned sedans in 1953-55. Hardtops did not have the roof ducts. Interestingly, Cadillac continued this for 1956, when Buick and the other GM divisions went to a front mounted air conditioner, as Packard had in 1955.

Gerd,

Your prose here is reminiscent of a novel. With my appetite whetted I'm looking forward to the next installment of this tale.

Gerd,

To quote a phrase.....It was a dark and stormy night.....no seriously..... today was a lovely mild winters day here, sunny and 16C. Reason I start my tale that way is because PACA had it's monthly run today, Sunday 5th July, to the Australian Motorlife Museum about 100kms south on a beautiful and clear sunny day. And because, back in early March, I'd scouted the museum as a possible destination for a monthly run and at that time one of the volunteer staff there gave me the magazine now in your hands. For you to receive it today must be "deja vu", if it's not I don't know what is!

As for speaking German, I have enough trouble with "Aussie English", so I'll leave it at that!

It's still a good looking car, no matter which country made it. My personal taste would be to have just the single chrome strip on the side though. The top up view makes it look boxy with all the extra length for the 4 doors. Any idea how much longer it is?
