I think these were discarded by mechanics over the years as different repairs were done to the engine.

G'day DougPack50, Notice this is your first post and you're new to Packardinfo, so welcome. And could you put your Packard in the Owner Registry together with a pic, and history if known, please? Once more -

If someone needs one, I have a heat shield off my '53 Clipper 288 that I won't be using since I'm going to an electric pump.

Ok I was looking thought the 100's of zip lock bags of bolts and small parts, and I found a bag labeled fuel pump hardware. Inside that bag was the shield lower bracket. I went back an looked at some old pics I took when I wrote my fuelpump rebuild article, and low and behold, the braket was installed on my fuel pump when I got the car. So I have the original lower bottom braket that came with me car.
So now the problem, it is not long enough to fit the shield I bought. It's like the shield goes back to far. So I would imagaine the problem is that I have the wrong shield. I got this shield off of ebay, and it was labled as coming off a '54 Caribbean. Did the seniors use a different fuelpump that needed a shield that need to go farther back? Anyone have a picture of a shield from a '53-54 Clipper?

Kev, as I mentioned they're all the same 51-54. Part # 426758 As someone else mentioned, there were different for jr & senior engines prior to that. You might have one of those instead of the 54 Caribbean. Another possibility is that yours has flattened out. Can it be bent to fit the bracket.
Edit-- that one looks like it is positioned wrong. If you look at the parts pict posted above, the bottom should come in front of the engine mount. If positioned there, with the bracket straight back to mount with the screw in the slot off the notch, will it work?

Ahh now I see what you are talking about, your right it just needs to be rotated down. I will give that a try after work tomorrow. That makes more sense when I compare my picture to the one in the engine plate.
The bolt on the bracket slips into the thin slot in the in the shield.

Lol basically... Having never seen an installed one in person, I thought it ran parallel with the manifold. Assumption is the mother of all screw-ups I guess.

A wise man once told me that you never assume anything. All it does is make an ass out of you and me.
