Caribbean Hoard in Ontario:

Think I may have seen this ad before, but it is back.

Three 1956 Caribbean convertibles. All are in rough condition and would require a significant effort. One is Corsican Black over Dover White (Scheme MV). Another is Scheme MAV (Dover White/Shannon Green/Corsican Black). Two parts cars included plus large stash of parts, including three NOS short blocks, NOS crankshafts, used dual quad intakes with manifolds and lots of NOS chrome. Asking price for everything is $37,500 CDN which is $26,625 at the current exchange rate. East Hawksbury:

I am reposting because the seller has posted several additional photos of the Corsican Black/Dover White 1956 Caribbean on a private Facebook group site (Packard Automobile Parts Buy and Sell). Only site members may view listings, so I have downloaded the photos and posted them here. The car has been taken out of the barn and photos of it taken from multiple angles. While it obviously needs a total restoration, the sheet metal at least looks excellent, and the car is complete. Unfortunately, no interior photos of the car were posted but I would assume that what's there is a total write-off. The top is in tatters. Asking price for just this Caribbean is $21K CDN which would put you at about $15K U.S. at the current exchange rate of $0.71 CDN to $1.00 U.S. While this car does appear to be an excellent candidate for restoration, $15K is probably a big ask for one in this condition, particularly when there are quite a few V-8 Caribbeans on the market at the present time.

And having no rust on a 56 Caribbean isn't exactly a huge flex as something like 10-20% of total production were babied throughout their entire existence. Try finding a no rust 48-50 sedan, it's way harder.

This guy has three titled and theoretically restorable Caribbeans, two parts car ones which are essentially scrap metal aside from the bows and seats, and two Patricians, all 56, and a pile of NOS parts. Asking $22,500 USD in total. At an average of $3,100 per car it's not very attractive.

Also important note, this is NOT a factory black car. It just isn't. The data plate (not pictured anywhere) gives the green color scheme.

Side note, Max Merritt Inc was going to go buy a bunch of this stuff but the seller is such a screwball that they basically gave up trying to make it happen. I don't care to go into more detail, just caveat emptor.

Looks like it has a broken torsion bar or something similar with that serious lean to the passenger side.

A few recent FB postings:

1954 Pacific. Nice older restoration. Has been sitting for past year and is not currently running due to owner's passing. Estate sale through a vintage car dealership. Red with black top. Has aftermarket continental kit. Rare stick shift with OD. Asking $20K. Louisiana:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1261700104932277

1953 Clipper Deluxe Sedan. Very sharp and well-preserved original car in two tone green. Has Ultramatic and accessory sun visor. I am almost certain that this car was originally from Connecticut and was formerly owned by longtime Eastern Packard Club member, the late Neil Donovan. If this is his old car, it is a great one. I knew Neal for years and frequently saw this car at club events. He found it stored in a barn back in the early 1980's and it only had about 20K miles on it when discovered. You will not find a Clipper of this vintage with a nicer interior. The green striped wool broadcloth is just beautiful. After Neil sold the car in the early 2000's, it went to a collector in Oklahoma who had it displayed in a museum for a number of years. I heard the car was later sold after the museum owner was killed in an accident and the museum had to close. Seller asking $15K. Indiana:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/763254046302773

P.S. I checked my photo archives and found some old black and white pictures of Neil Donovan's '53 Clipper. This has to be his car. Note the front plate and the sun visor.

1954 Clipper Deluxe Sedan. Recently pulled from long term storage and not running. Owner deceased and family want to sell. Rear windshield blown out. Front seats look pretty bad, but body does look straight, and car might clean up nicely. But $9K asking price is probably out of the ballpark, given the overall condition. Kentucky:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1605950977447100

1956 Clipper Super Sedan. Decent original car but somewhat banged up. Odo show 88K miles. Has some collision damage along right rear door and quarter panel. Looks like car was sideswiped. Some chrome trim missing. Two-tone green paint and interior look original. Car runs and the torsion level system is working. Asking $5K. Minnesota:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1786274305305985

1941 110 Special Coupe. Older restoration with deteriorated two-tone green paint and an incorrect brown vinyl interior. Chrome does look nice, and body is exceptionally straight. Seller asking $9,500. Missouri:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/1462801451457628

1955 Clipper Super Panama Hardtop. Restored car with new paint, chrome and interior. Interior done in modern fabric and seller admits car has some bondo in lower front fenders and rear quarter panel areas. But it does look sharp in two-tone ivory over red paint scheme with wide whites. Car has been sitting for about the last three years and needs some work to be roadworthy. Check the grille - I think it is actually off of a '56 Clipper. Seller asking $12,500. Just listed today. Missouri:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/2049745472458925

1947 Clipper Six Sedan. Project car that needs a lot of work. Has been sitting outside for an extended period of time and is partially sunk into the ground. Someone painted it in an incorrect two-tone paint scheme but paint is now peeling off in spots. But body does look straight. Not running. Seller asking $3K. Bismarck, ND:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/25090281260565268

1939 Six Touring Sedan. Not running. Car has been in storage for many years. Engine was replaced with a Ford V-8. Interior redone in incorrect pattern with a velour material. Looks like something out of the 1970's. Old repaint in a copper tone color. Body does look exceptionally straight but the $25K asking price is a bit over the top. Dallas, TX:

facebook.com/marketplace/item/3290140814486460

1956 Patrician. Restored car with new paint, chrome and interior. Headliner does need to be redone. Packard Ivory over Corsican Black. Odo shows 41 K miles. Runs and drives great. Asking $11,500. Texas:

The Pacific looks descent but I’m not sure what was meant that it has a Classic Air compressor after the original was no longer available as this car does not have factory A/C.

I'm pretty sure that 53 Clipper is Neal's car. I sat in it and I pretty sure I drove it. Very very nice.

When I knew it was pretty much in the condition it was when he bought it. When he looked at it two other interested parties were dickering with the owner over the price. Neal was not a rich man, but he understood the condition of the car and ended the chatter by agreeing to the asking price.

Anyone interested should do the same. I would if had the money lying around .

Hi John: Nice to see a post from a former EPC'er. This Clipper has to be Neil's old car. I remember that 1953 Packard vanity plate. Neil put that on the car right after he bought it. Regarding the car, Neil had some cosmetic work done on it back in the 1990's by a shop in Derby, CT called Vintage Motorcars. I knew the owner pretty well and frequently hung around the shop. This would have been late 1990's - early 2000's. The shop owner was a guy named Paul Lane. Lane later got into financial difficulty and had to close the shop around 2002. I had a car down there at the time, a 1951 "250" Convertible. It was all apart, and Lane had not finished all of the work I had paid him for. I ended up being forced to sell it at a substantial loss. Several other people I knew had cars in the shop at the time it closed and found themselves in the same situation. Lane himself passed away a few years later from a brain tumor. Anyway, I remember Neil's car down there being worked on. It had some minor rust out in the lower rocker panels and a few side scrapes. I thought that the shop did a really good job with the work they did, and the car looked great afterwords.

I also remember discussing the history of the car with Neil on several occasions. The original owners were an elderly couple, and the husband had purchased it for his wife's use. A few years later, the wife was involved in a minor accident which shook her up quite badly. The car was repaired, but the woman refused to ever drive again, and the car was put into storage. Around 1962, she passed away and the car was traded in to a local Ford dealership by a relative. A local farmer spotted the car on the lot and bought it, but for some reason, he never put it on the road. It spent the next 20 or so years in storage in a barn on the property until it was put up for sale by the farmer's son. Neil found the car through a newspaper ad and ended up buying it. At the time, it only had about 22K on it. Neil owned it until a couple years before he died. I think he ended up selling it due to a combination of health and financial reasons. The next owner was Dave Kane, whom I am sure you remember from the EPC days. Dave owned a number of Packards, including an AACA award winning 1958 Hawk. He later moved from Connecticut to Oklahoma and opened a car museum along the old Route 66 where his cars, including Neil's Clipper, were displayed. I later heard that Dave had been killed in an accident on his farm. The museum was subsequently closed and the cars auctioned off. The current seller of the car is probably the party who purchased it at the museum closing auction.

This is a rare chance to buy an almost totally original, low mileage survivor car. It was never taken apart or restored, other than for some minor cosmetics. Most of the paint is original. The interior looks virtually brand new, and the car is very clean inside and out. This is indeed a Packard you would be proud to own, and I think it is well work the asking price. I hope that someone on this forum can make it theirs.

If you really wanted to sell this, at least remove the tarp. Or perhaps what we see if all that is left of it!
