Removal is pretty simple, there is a tapered lead locking pin, horizontally, that holds the pin secure. Knock back the pin, remove the endcaps and knock the pin out.

Yes, new king pin sets are available, no problem. $80 for a set, both sides, delivered.

Before you start check the ride height. Pre-war Packard springs sag a lot which beats the king pins to death. So if your springs are sagging they need to be replaced along with the king pins.

Wes - having never replaced a king pin, I went through your post. Nice write up with loads of pictures made it easy to understand and follow.

Thanks

I must also add that West's writeup and photos illustrate what is great about this site - not only had West done this in the past, but stepped up to direct the poster to the specific point at his blog. Kudos to West.

And just some minor points of interest - depending on the king pin kit selected, NOS, aftermarket or Reproduction, there may be bushings to ream, or needle bearings which are a specific fit. Be sure to coordinate the location of the grease fitting to the corresponding holes in bushings or bearings. Finally, I have come across worn wheel supports which act like worn king pins, so be sure to check this too.

Have brand new set of king pins for 1938-40 Packard 110.
Came as part of the rebuild kit from Kanter.
Complete Still in original sealed packaging.
Still do not know how we ended up with two sets of king pins.
$50.00 plus $7.00 U.S. snail mail shipping if you can use.
If you want ups or over night I will check when you reply and let you know the cost.

Thank You
John Miller

Looking back at my "how to", I see that I've used a mixture of right and left side photos for the process. Probably a mistake. The one photo that shows us driving the pin back in (post #35) looks to be the driver's side, and we're driving it from the front to the back.
