Removal of engine sans g'box 53 Clipper

Hello all, Just in the process of pulling the motor from my 53 Clipper 2662. Have noticed how hard it is to access top bolts of ultramatic with rear ultramatic mount in place. Have previously pulled trans, not engines from others with no problems. Any thoughts. I have thoughts similar to removing gearbox from Volkswagen where mechanics punch holes in rear panels to access gearbox bolts. It appears almost impossible to remove engine without gearbox removal. Any sage advice from Ross etc would be appreciated. How do other people do this? Kind regards, Peter Toet. P.S. I shall remove this tomorrow one way or another.

They are possible with the aid of a really long extension and universal joint on the end. Certainly not easy. Have had many cars through here that had two holes cut in the tunnel already. Best wishes on the project.

If you use a "long" extension be aware of the twist flex in some that will not allow you to transfer the torque to the bolt.
SNAPON does make one that has limited twist that I have used for trans bolt removal.
I do have several cheap long ones that when using a standard ratchet handel I can see some twist as I use it.

Hello all, Have removed engine from top of engine bay without trans. Did not remove front grille or radiator housing. Needed to disconnect tailshaft at gearbox, remove rear gearbox mount and sling front with chain at approximate level engine position. Then able to access top gearbox housing bolts with extension bars and universal joint. Engine going to reconditioners on Monday. Mal could you please rotate this for me. Ta.

Seems like it could be a job getting that heavy engine lined back up with the transmission.
