I have a chance to pick this up for $4800.
1954 Packard Clipper 2 Door with recent paint, brakes, fuel pump and carburetor. Needs new interior losing storage. Been in family since 1979. Needs new interior and low miles on engine rebuild.
Talked to owner and says no rust problems and it is a runner.
What do you guys think?

Can you post a link (if it's an online posting)

If not, please take and upload a bunch of photos, either here, or a site like Imgur.

$4800 sounds decent IF it's good to go mechanically. If it needs mechanical work, body work, anything like that, then that might be too high.

Keep in mind you can find ones that are sorted and wouldn't look out of place in a museum, for around $11k.

Honestly it looks pretty good to me, make sure it runs and drives smoothly though.

Be sure to have a good peek around to see how much rust there is. If you can, it's helpful to record a video walkaround (especially the interior) and simply post it on YouTube as an "unlisted" video, and link here.

The one thing I will say is, if you won't be happy with an iffy interior, don't buy it. Redoing them properly is very expensive and time-consuming. Just know whether you're the type to need a car that looks like it's well-loved and 5 years old, or if you're okay with well-loved and 69 years old.

One of my mottos is "if it's already broke you don't have to worry about breaking it"... hence why I don't mind if things show a bit of wear. You can drive it for 20k miles if you want, and it won't be noticeably worse. In my opinion, it's a bit harder to enjoy driving a car in excellent condition. Judging by that you're looking at $5k Packards instead of $15k, I assume you would feel similarly.

Those cars are easy to keep up and delightful to drive. That is the lightest car in the Packard lineup and with the 327 it will be good performer. With radials they corner surprisingly well and are easy to steer. I guess you can tell that I am a fan.

Are you going to look at it? Take a few pictures to show us, but especially the gearshift quadrant.

TY ALL for the replies and yes I am going to look at it and will take some pics. I do like a car that looks good so that will be a concern as far as the interior.
