PI judging book says it should be packard green for 48. i must correct my error, heat shield should be engine color- for 48 i use
dupla-color universal gray. sorry about that-thinking of the wrong year.

Packard green on a gray engine? That seems kinda odd although very colorful.

Well, after trying to determine which color it should be (grey or green) I went with grey.
But I'm assuming that the response also meant that the heat shield should be painted. ...back to work. Thanks, Mark

Does engine color on the shield hold true for 21st series and earlier?

PI judging book states 40 through 58 fuel pumps natural, heat shields-engine color. hope that helps.

I know this is an old post - what's the PI judging book and where can I get one? I want to make sure my restoration is as accurate as possible!

go to Packard international web site-look under judging rules-I think they charge for the engine bay guidelines

Kudos to PI for producing the engine room judging guide, it was a lot of work to put together and a very worthwhile document; I refer to it often. That said, some of its conclusions have been subject to debate. Much of it is based on photos of display engines or engine illustrations in shop manuals which predate the actual production of cars by months, so its not necessarily the last word. The best source of information remains original and unmolested cars which unfortunately are fewer and fewer in number, and not photo-documented as often as we'd like.
