Packard didn't specify wire sizes for 55-6. They did for earlier 6v looms and that was 14 ga for the run feeding both bulbs between the brake sw and turn signal sw and then dropped it to 16 ga for the individual runs after the turn signal sw.
IMO, 16 ga might be a tad over but would be good for the entire brake light circuit on the 12v 55-6 because it gives a bit of cushion for the long run. Not sure if Packard followed suit in 55-6 but If it is any guide, Studebaker used 18 ga for the brake lights on the 57-58 Packard models.

G'day Gene(Amethyst),
See you're a very long time PackardInfo member, but first post, so You already have your '54 Pacific Hardtop in the Registry but, seeing you're asking about, '55-56 wiring, is there another one in the garage? If so I'd sure appreciate if you could include it in the Registry too.

Thanks, Howard, for the tips on wire gauge for the 1955-56.
I will update the roster to reflect other cars I own.

You can get pretty close by using a good wire stripper to zero in on the original gauge.

Again, another worthwhile discussion, albeit on the wrong forum. It will be better served on the V8 forum. The discussion forums are designed to serve a particular group of interests and posting to the wrong site, while it may solicit replies will be lost to those seeking information for their particular group.

Gene for including your '56 Four Hundred Hardtop Coupe in the Packard Vehicle Registry.
I also see another Packard in the garage behind the coupe. It'd be nice to have that one in the Registry too.
