Camshaft removal advice

Hi to all, I am new to this forum and need help.
I have a 1937 320 8 cylinder 135 HP Super eight
and I need to remove the cam.
The engine is completely stripped except for the cam.
Something is holding the split bronze bearing that is clamped to
cam where the fuel pump drive is, and preventing side and rotational movement.

Advise would be greatly appreciated

Mark

When you say the engine is completely stripped, does that include the fuel pump push rod?

Under the cam rocker covers there are dowels that hold those bearings in place besides the mentioned fuel pump pushrod.

Those bearings have a nasty habit of seizing in place, so if the dowels and what not have been removed then patiently soaking the bearings with Gumout, Kroil, Liquid Wrench, or whatever, and gentle heating should free them. Don't use the hammer method because that will chip the oil pump drive gear and cause a tapping noise.

Sometimes you have to be patient to get those motors apart.

Thanks for the replies, The push rod has been removed.
I had tried to remove the dowel as it was the only thing
that I could see that might hold the bearing, and had used heat but
it felt so solid I gave up.
I had wondered if the dowels were intended to be removable
as they have a grouve

Tomorow I will give it a soak and more heat.

Thanks for the advice on removing the can shaft.
After soaking in my special brew ( which normally works)
and lots of heat I gave in and welded a bolt to the dowel and used a
slide hammer to extract the dowel.
I guess there was a factory extractor tool.

Always nice to hear a success story! You've got my curiosity up, somewhere I have a Packard special tool catalog that covers that engine and when I find it I'll look to see if they had a special tool; it doesn't ring a bell though.
