Being a little confined with the recent rains, we had rain every day for a few weeks. I occupied my idle mind with a small project.

I had a Pyrene soda-acid fire extinguisher canister. The extinguisher had hung in my father's business for decades. Many years ago I liberated it when we were changing tenants. I made a lamp out of it several years ago and fitted a traditions conical shade.

Looking at the lamp, I decided it needed a more automotive look. I thought a shade of some air filter elements would be the right look. The pleated paper should allow a nice soft glow of light. I took the shade with me to a parts store so I could find a filter that would be the right size to attach the shade bracket. I sacrificed the shade for its bracket. Then I selected two more filters to complete the shade. I attached the bracket to one of the filters then glued all the filters together. I first used 3M weather strip adhesive, but it was not strong enough. I ended up using super glue in the final version. This is shade 3.0 as the first two versions needs some revisions. I like the look and the light it casts.

A man walks into an auto parts store with a lamp shade.
The clerk, looking a bit puzzled, asks if there is anything he can do to help.
The man says he is looking for lamp shades.
The clerk says they do not have any.
The man say that yes they do and they are over in the air filter area.

An unoccupied mind can lead one to interesting places.

Okay Mal, be that way. I guess I will have to do it myself.
