One more question would using 3/8 line hurt anything if I have plenty of that

Don't think it would hurt anything but you would need to obtain any necessary fittings to connect 3/8 tubing to the factory 5/16 fitting at the tank plus whatever is needed to connect to the flex hose at the fuel pump.
Can't speak directly to 37 but later cars have a brass block fitting bolted to the frame or sheetmetal that the flex hose connects to. The 5/16 tubing is soldered or brazed to that block so if you have one, reusing it might be an issue with larger tubing.

1930s Eights have 5/16 lines 1930s Twelve have 3/8 lines Often wondered if the 3/8 line was one of the culprits to the Twelve being more prone to Vapor Lock. Line Fittings IDs are the same, Fuel Pump designs are identical on the fuel side and Carb orifices are almost identical. Thinking larger line would leave more stagnant fuel which might add to Vapor's being created. JUST A THOUGHT.

Yes I got to thinking the larger line may cause issues for mechanical pump suction
