Hi Chris

River barges tend to be long and narrow, have to fit into locks and between bridge abutments. Navigating wide open lake waters would be a nerve-racking experience.

More from back in the day, a happy couple and their '30 726 or '31 826 sedan. They look quite pleased, wonder if it was a wedding gift just received from the parents?

Looking out the windshield of a trolley toward another about to pass a parked '46-'47 lwb sedan. A '52-'54 Ford station wagon is off to the right, Guesses are the Packard was in livery service by then. Location wasn't specified, anyone recognize the large building?

Steve

Thanks for posting, Steve. There is something about looking at history through old B&W photos that I find intriguing. They give one such a sense of 'the time' and when all the small details are scrutinized, they tell quite a story. Chris.

I don't think the 1930 car is a period picture. I think it is from the 1950's when super nice original Packard sedans were showing up on car lots for $50.

As well, I think it is a Custom 8.

This wonderful image of a 1934 Twelve 1107 sport phaeton in a parade at an unknown location during the 1930's is posted on this interesting AACA Forum thread:

forums.aaca.org/topic/336469-pierce-limo ... ars-in-postwar-era/page/5/#comments

From the attire and dressing styles, I would guess 1936-'39 era. The cars parked behind the crowd are also in the period. Everyone is dressed up, all with hats as was the custom then. Anyone recognize the VIP's in the rear seat?

On a topic of period cars photos decades ago on the AACA forum, participant Tph479 posted this photo of a '32 Light Eight 900 coupe sedan identified as a $75 car in 1936. Looks in very decent condition and what nice proportion that particular model had without side-mounts.

Steve, I drove 1 like this summer, and it's like a 30's muscle car! I didn't know but theres only 1 in the Packard club directory and theres 1 in town here. Pretty rare! Not the best picture but there was no room for better angle.
