I sent another email to Jim Walther, director of the National Atomic Museum about their project. I included a link to this forum discussion as follows:
Jim, We emailed each other some months ago about the Museum's Packard Restoration project. i suggested to you that it is a 1942 clipper not a 1941 model. Several of my fellow Packard Lovers on the Packard information website have identified this vehicle as a 1942 Clipper. If you are not already sick of feedback on this 41?/42? question, here is a link to out forum discussion on PInfo website. packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... orum=4&post_id=22251#forumpost22251 Thanks for your project. I hope you register it on our website with photos when you complete the restoration. Dan Leininger 1941 Packard Clipper driver & Nat'l Lab fanclub member I will let you know if I recieve further response. DanL

I think this is what's called "a pre-emptive strike"!

John,
Just a word of caution on that, as I am pretty sure that is copyrighted material. Not sure if we can get a release from the Albuquerque Journal on that or not.

I got an email response from Jim Walther, Dir of the Nat'l Atomic Museum today. He says he will REGISTER the Atomic Packard on PInfo website. (How ya' like them apples, Mal). Here is his response:
Dan, We will register it in April when it is completed. Our confusion is with the title and bill of sale that indicate 41. Thanks. Jim So, we may get this 41/42 Clipper stretch limo on the website owners registry ain April. Neat! DanL

Dan, do you think he understands the significance of the body-type number on the VN plate?

Owen,
I doubt it. There was a photo of that V/N plate on a website (Flickr?). I will suggest that Jim include a photo of the VN plate and the before-after photos when he posts. MAYBE I should suggest that he make a Project Blog on PInfo devoted to the Atomic Packard. It is a Museum Car, so a blog would be just an extension of the 'exhibit' of the Packard. Also, Jim's response is unclear to me: Quote: Dan, We will register it in April when it is completed. Our confusion is with the title and bill of sale that indicate 41. Thanks. Jim Does he mean a bill of sale from 1941? Does he refer to a bill of sale from a junk dealer/seller from 200_? when the car was saved from the crusher? I suspect the later. I will try to find out. DanL

Kevin, thanks for the heads up on the copyrighted article.
Here is a way to get to the article. 1. Go to the Albuquerque Journal's website (www.abqjournal.com), 2. from the home page go to the "Click for Archives" window, 3. when that page loads enter Manhattan Project in the search, 4. then the link to the story will be displayed. Look for "Rescued hulk likely carried Manhattan Project scientists". Only the text will be displayed.

The Atomic Packard will be Registered on Packard Info website this Spring.
Jim Walther, museum director, responded to my email last week as follows: Quote: Daniel, We believe it is a 1942 even though the bills say 1941. Jim. I will pass this on to our curator so we can provide details to you and register the car. Jim This will be an interesting Post for the website. Maybe the Museum Curator will make a Project Blog for this historic old 42 Limo. Possibly the only radioactive Packard on the website? Ya think? DanL

If a Project Blog is raised it would be very interesting to watch it's progress unfold as the '42 comes back to life. And of course, I look forward to seeing the '42 in the Owner Registry. Again
