Hello,

I'm helping a friend get his '48 convertible running. he has a rebuilt fuel pump but is missing part #9.800 in the dual action picture that BigKev posted. What is it called and are they available also need a rebiuld kit or new 6v horns for it also. I'll ask him if he wants to add his cars to the registry.

Thanks Mike.

I believe you are speaking of the cylindrical object on the output side fuel port. It is called an air dome and is essentially a hollow chamber full of air. The purpose was to smooth out the pulses from the fuel pump to give a more steady flow of fuel to the carb. It was found to be not necessary and dropped after 51. Vendors may have it but more than likely will need to come off a parts car. If wanted it can be eliminated as long as the port opening it screwed into is plugged.

I don't believe there are any rebuild kits for horns. Unless one has gotten water soaked and rusted internally or the air horn was filled with debris and plugged up (wasp nests make good plugs) usually about all that goes wrong is the contacts inside get oxidized and fail to make contact. A good cleaning of the contacts is all that is usually required to get them working again. If the old connector wire has hardened and deteriorated, that can also be fairly easily changed.

I'm pretty sure I found my dampener at "Then and Now" automotive parts. It's been a while so not sure if they still have inventory.

While it's important to post the entire URL which, in this case, isthen-now-auto.com/ , the site appears to be down or the company is gone.

They have a facebook page, but the last post was mid 2020. I don't do facebook. No mention of status but contact links were nonfunctional. There's a phone number on there. The "new" URL; then-now.com is also non-claimed.
Not my day to keep track of all the small businesses that may or may not survived the epidemic.
They were a good source for me.
