So I have now completed my car and have it on the road with the governments blessing sporting her proper license plates and all.
So I have been taking my long suffering neighbours out for a trip around the neighbourhood as a thank-you for putting up with all the noise and ruckus over the past two years. I love the questions and comments:
"Oh wow, it's all retro in here!" (No, the dash is restored to the way it was when retro was not heard of!)
"What kind of gas mileage do you get?" (Who cares, it is not a daily driver)
Is this the original interior? (This from the very people that were in the garage wondering why someone would buy a wreck like this with not even any seats!)
"Oh, is it a standard shift?" (!!! It would be a World War and 11 years later before one 1st came in a 48 Olds)
"Can you drive standard?" (As we are going smoothly down the road)
I am sure you have heard some doozies too, please add to the list!

The reply here has me confused. Automatics came out before the war.

This one was relayed to me second hand at Hershey this year: someone insisting to a '56 Patrician owner that the dual exhaust was not factory. Can't even imagine the reasoning behind that one...

Mostly what I get personally is a look of slight confusion when I mention "Packard" since most are unfamiliar with the name, especially anyone my age. (25)

I have been asked if it's a Plymouth. I guess they got as far as the P.

Well...I usually get asked "Who made Packard"

So true. Most of my neighbours are well versed in the make by now, but I like the one's reply to the answer "1937 Packard 120C".
"I understood '1937' in that reply!"

So there I am standing next to my greatly weathered 73 year old car, and I am sweetly asked if I bought it new. O jeez, I must look REALLY bad. This has happened several times.
