Remove Aero-Drive Wiring

I have a 1941 110 business coupe and would like to remove the wiring on the aero - drive relay on the firewall. I do not plan on repairing the unit and want
clean up the wiring under hood since it has been repaired and revised over the years. Any problem just removing wiring and relay box ?

No problem in removing the relay but if any of the wires are run as part of the main loom and are just going to be cut off or tucked aside then care needs to be taken with a couple of them.

The wire going to relay terminal 1 is power in for the overdrive so will be hot at all times. The wire going to terminal 2 has the other end attached to the coil terminal that goes to the distributor. Not all models had a fuse for the power in wire as shown on this drawing so you either need to make sure both terminal 1 and terminal 2 wires are disconnected at each end or else carefully tape and protect any traces of bare wire remaining at the loom so neither wire can touch ground or another wire.

R9 relays -- actually all R9 parts and particularly the electrical items are becoming scarce and expensive. Even if the relay has a problem it might be repairable or provide parts to fix another one so please don't throw it away.

This thread brings up an interesting question for me.

My '40 110 will not see freeway speeds; it'll be a cruiser around town. Pretty much stock.

I have a '47 transmission that came with a donor engine.

Should I just remove the Econodrive trans and it's accessories completely, and sell them? I'm in the middle of bodywork at the moment; the freshened up 245 is in the car, the trans is untouched.

Thoughts?

You would need to change the driveshaft too and also the rear end with overdrive has a different ratio than without. I can’t help with the rear end but I’m pretty sure that I have a non-overdrive driveshaft at my shop.

Even if you don't use it, i'd keep the overdrive.

The car is more desirable with it.

Overdrive adds so much to drive-ability on today's roads, even old roads. I cannot understand why anyone would want to do away with it. If the wiring needs to be cleaned up, then make it neat. Don't get in there with a pair of dikes and start chopping wires out. If the car is worth keeping, then keep it well.
