Those of us present at Hershey when the car changed hands were a bit flabbergasted at the price.

Did he get the asking price? I saw the car and it was beautiful, but $55,000?

Yes, the suspense is killing us. If indelicate to provide exact figure, give us an approximation of sale price.

Dave's memory is correct. The fellow paid very close to the asking price and was happy with the purchase. It was an outstanding automobile.

It is a gorgeous looking car but I always wonder the whys & hows when these come up--like the Plymouth that was put in the time capsule for the future only to rust away.
The article didn't mention, but did the fellow knowing it was the last one decide to keep for posterity, buy two and this was the spare, count on it for his retirement, buy and then for some reason couldn't drive, or something else entirely. Anyway, whatever the reason someone has a fine car now. Looking at the tires on this and the one Mal found below it, there does appear a difference in the whitewalls. Is the fellow on the repro tire post correct that there was a different width 55-6? O_D, which ones do you have. You mentioned having the same tires, but I didn't see a listing for 800-15 on the Kelsey site unless I totally missed it or misunderstood your response.

Howard, perhaps I misread something, I bought the Goodyear wide white P235R15 from Kelsey. He gave me a huge discount after the 8:00x15 Generals that I bought from him gave unsatisfactory treadwear life.
And Randy, thanks for noting that my memory was correct, it's become a rare event lately.

The whitewall size thing has been bothering me, too. There are experts frequenting this forum that will undoubtedly know what was correct but, somewhere in the back of my mind (which you all know is like a steel trap - rusty and full of mice) I seem to recall some 56th Series cars having narrow whitewalls when new. Realise fully that this could've been customer preference and dealer installations but, closely as I kept track of the cars as they appeared on the streets and at the dealer, I don't believe that I am wrong in my recollection.
