54 Cavalier brake light switch

Our recently acquired 54 Cavalier has recently lost its brake lights. Does it take the same 2 prong switch as the 21st and 22nd series? Also, is it accessible from under the hood as the older cars or do you access it from underneath? I cannot see it from under the hood. Thanks, Tommy

Same 2 prong for 1941-1958. I believe it's easier to access from under the car.

Dwight Heinmuller has replacement switches. Keep scrolling down the page to find it: Packard Parts

It's on the front of you brake booster, and yes easier to access from underneath. Test your switch and check your wiring, it could be either.

And if you have manual brakes, the switch is still on the front of the master but is a little harder to see from above.

You can get one at any auto parts store as it was used on countless vehicles. Yes, it's under the car at the front of the cylinder.

Echlin SL134, $12.99 at Napa. This is the push on (bullet) terminal type.

Wasn't there talk about the new switches being prone to failure? Is this correct? If so is this because of different brake fluids?

Bleed your brakes after you replace the switch.

Pretty much everyone uses DOT 4, so as long as the switch is compatible with that.

DOT 5 could be a problem though.
