For sale is a 1937 Packard Super 8 Club Sedan. The engine has been rebuilt along with the brakes, exhaust and gas tank. It runs and drives. It’s an older repaint over original paint. Needs new interior wood around fabric top. Included will be original headlights (not sealed beams) and correct moldings for running boards. This beauty would be a perfect wedding or parade vehicle. Asking $29,000

I am helping my father in law, Doug Hull, sell some cars. If you have any questions, he can be reached at 201-230-3300.

Some more pictures. I have additional pictures but I think the resolution is too high.

I think the best help you can give him is to let him know a realistic asking price. I suggest starting at $10,000, but even that would scare most people away.

To state the obvious, he needs to have receipts for that work for it to be worth anything beyond the standard "runs and drives" value.

Endless cars out there with shoddy or nonstandard work that needs to be corrected with the help of an expert later.

Probably 10-15k would be reasonable. There’s a ‘37 Super 8 fully restored for $52k asking on ClassicCars.com . To get there, one might have 8-10 in paint, 8-10 in upholstery, 8-10 in chrome, 8-10 in engine and running gear, plus hours and hours of joy disassembling and cleaning , fixing parts like gauges, pumps, brakes, etc. So if you subtract all that from $52k you’ll be down to an asking price that would attract a buyer. Plus wood work. It would be a beauty when done.

It would definitely be a worthy project. Entry fee seems a bit high. Receipts and specifics on work done would be a plus.

Big project cars like this one are a tough sell in today's market. Not many people around with the skills and pocketbook required to complete a restoration and probably a lot fewer prospective buyers than in the past. Even if you did most of the work yourself, you would still probably need at least $50K to do a credible job, potentially much more depending on what you would have to farm out. If this car needs extensive woodwork, it could get prohibitively expensive quite fast.

Right now, $50K would get you this beautifully restored 1937 Twelve:

For reference I did everything on my 37 convertible coupe except upholstery and paint. (The paint I swapped for me doing the bodywork on a vehicle at their shop so there was no cost out of pocket for myself, straight trade.) Even at that the total restoration cost was $30 grand US. I spent 6,200 hours to complete the build. This is a much simpler car than the one listed so the labour on this one could easily double.
The restoration shops say you will spend roughly twice the end value of your car to restore it professionally. Scary math!
