Packard Darrin?

If anyone is interested, I just saw a movie last night on Turner Classics called "One Mysterious Night" (1944) with Chester Morris as Boston Blackie. At the opening scene it looks like a 1939 or 40 Packard Darrin convertible parked by the curb facing away from the camera and just behind it a Cadillac convertible. I'm pretty sure it was a Darrin - anyone else see this movie? Also in some later scenes Blackie is driving a 1939 Packard Super 8 sedan (finally a good guy driving a Packard!) but the Cormorant over the radiator is missing it's wings. Strange.

Oh, I thought the movie was pretty good also.

Sorry I missed this movie, I wonder if the Darrin spotted was Chester Morris own car? He had a 1938 Darrin either #3 or#4. We know that.Dutch Darrin liked to have his cars in the lime lite anyway he could.

It very well could have been Morris' car, as it appears to have running boards and a pretty severe rake to the windshield. Too bad it wasn't used more in the movie, or show better details, as the Morris car is quite unique. A much steeper rake to the windshield, being the major design difference. According to Coachbuilt.com, it was the prototype Packard Darrin (coachbuilt.com/bui/d/darrin/darrin.htm).

That certainly looks like a Darrin with a "Darrin dip" door and other features.

However, the car parked behind it is certainly not a Cadillac. No way. It appears to be a 1940 Oldsmobile.

I always regret the nice 1940 Darrin 4-door convertible sedan that I didn't buy when I was 18 at a whopping $18,500. Considering that at the time time the most I had paid for a Packard was $200 for my 1939 Six, $18,500 was a big stretch but even then I could anticipate its future value. I guess I kind of made up for it in my early 20s when I bought a one of ten 1964 Imperial Crown Limousine by Ghia.

150k adjusted for inflation, estimate is only 200k now, so you're not losing anything from an investment perspective.
