They go in slots between the rear bearing cap and the block, one on either side. If you car originally had them, they are probably so oil soaked as to look like part of the cap so check it carefully!

Here are a couple of visual aids. Note that some gasket sets had an incorrect size for the sticks so there were some issues with oil leaks. Depending on where your gasket set came from or how old it is it might be worth checking the size before trying to install. Packard provided a service bulletin with proper dimensions. The sticks go in very snugly and if yours wants to go in without much work or force when driving them in it might be from an under sized batch.

First I have ever dealt with them too. Here is an image of them installed. The kit from Kanter also came with a utility knife to trim them flush after install, very impressive!
