Disc brake rear axle

A 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee rear axle will fit a 51 to 54 Packard and allow use of stock wheels, leaf springs and shocks. I'm doing some modifications on mine but that isn't necessary. I'm just tacking things together and once the shocks arrive I will figure out how the swaybar will be mounted. Unsure if arms will go forward or back.also not sure if swaybar is going above or behind the axle.

Sure is handy to know, and thanks for sharing, but to be honest I don't see the need as there are countless unloved rear axles out there in parts cars that could be had for a song.

Any reason in particular to go this route? Planning on some burnout contests?

I can't see any good reason for such an exchange. My 1951 Henney-Packard had a Dana rear end from an older Jeep but it was not sufficient for the weight of the car so now has the stock rear end.

No Burnouts. Just wanted disc brakes on the rear and this seemed more straight forward than converting the original axle.

For Packard Don, its a Dana 44 and the donor vehicle has a higher axle load rating than the Packard so it shouldn't be a problem.

My car weighs over three tons and has huge rear brakes (14" drums) so the tiny Dana rear end was dwarfed under there. Also, the stock 4.7 moves all the weight.

NEW PACKARD GUY

Hello.

I'm Joe, new here. Someone is giving me 1950 wagon but it is missing a few things like the rear end. Would this work for this particular vehicle?
If not what would?

Thanks for the advice and wisdom.

Joe, welcome! Proper mechanical parts should be readily available for your car. Unless you're planning on racing it or driving in stop and go traffic, disk brakes are absolutely not needed. I suggested you start your own blog about your car so that we can help you properly without getting in the way of someone else's project. Select Forums from the left menu, then look for the Project Blogs where you can start a new one and we want, of course to see photos!
