I'm putting together my '52 327 that I've dragged my feet on for a few years. I had all the machine work done on the block and some cracks fixed. Purchased a rebuild kit from Kanter and figured I should get on with it so I can enjoy the car again. My question is next to the cam thrust plate there is an oil galley hole that feeds the tappets that is open. What goes in it? Its not threaded like the other holes so does it take a welsh (freeze plug)?

There is a plug needed and I believe it is the cup shaped type -- whatever those are called. Check out the oil gallery metering plug article on page 15 in this service counselor. It has an end view of the plug and information on the size hole needed for adequate front seal and timing chain lubrication for engines with either solid or hydraulic lifters.
