I think the station sedan might be painted the 49-51 Valiant Green poly which is a very slight metallic. The 51 that I drove thru high school was that color and looked fairly decent. My all time favorite Packard green offeriing is the 54 Gulf Green poly which was used for the body of the 54 I had. It is also a slight metallic but that green is probably too light and bright for what you are looking for and maybe that era and style of car. There are a couple of decent dark greens in the 55-56 charts too.

This was a test spray of one possible color sprayed over two different color primers. The flat panel was grey primer, and the taillight riser was black primer. I need to take these outside in the sunlight and see what they look like, but it's very overcast here today.

I'll probably spray out a couple of flat panels with the black primer just so it's more apples to apples. But this was just a sample 1/2 pint of paint to see where this tweak to a modern paint got us. We substituted the silver and modern larder flake component of the formula with a very fine silver powder. Trying to geting the metallic sheen without actually seeing the flake in the paint.

The flat panels are just some 22-gauge scrap I had left over from the rust repair.

NOTE: Click on the picture, as the above small version looks looks horrible

Out of the two, I think the color on the gray primer looks better. But maybe that will change in the sunlight.

That modern metallic looks.... modern. You need to see how to reduce the size of the metallic bits. In most cases, if you can see the metallic without squinting and the sun shining brightly on it, it's not correct. In my opinion, modern metallics on prewar cars makes them look like they were painted in a bass boat factory.

Perceived color, flake size, and flake loading are all interactive. You are going the right route with test sprays. Make sure you view the samples under different lighting and angles. The flake size is not magic - Silberline is the major supplier and they list the particle size. That’s likely your paint guy’s source

In modern paints, some use paliochrome flake. Beware, as it looks like fine flake in some angles/lighting but flashes to bass boat level with angle

The spectrophotometer got confused by metal flake. A matching pro can get directional info but not a final match from this’

The shades you are looking at likely use phthalo green as a pigment. Be sure that the final concentration is not at a very low « tint » level. If so, have the match redone with the pigment levels increased. Tint level phthalo green or blue plus aluminum flake do not weather well

We used to match plastic to OEM paint colors at work

It looks terrible unless one opens the photo to full size, then it looks great! Somehow the smaller view make the metallic look huge when it isn't.

It's something to do with the resizing algorithm and how it factors and combines neighboring pixels.

Yes, I know and those types of things are even worse when scanning a printed document and getting the Moiré pattern from the halftones.

Just for comparison, here is the same two pieces held against the radiator surround, and under LED light.

It just amazes me how different the two pieces I sprayed look with the only different being the primer color. They were both sprayed are same time, with the same amount of coats.

The taillight riser, sprayed over black primer, looks more like the radiator surround. The flat piece over grey primer looks way too "kelly" green.

I'm curious to see what this shade make look like sprayed over a red oxide primer similar to what Packard used.

As a said before, this was attempt number one at finding the correct(ish) color by matching a modern paint chip to the radiator surround and then modifying the metal flake.

I wish I had a part with original Almond Green on it to go off of.

Fun fact, 1936 Almond Green is a slightly different shade than 1937 Almond Green. They even have different Duco paint code numbers.

Also, I have 7 different copies of the 1937 Paint Chips. Both from different paint manufacturers and duplicates from the same manufacturer. Every single chip for Almond Green is different. Proof that trying to match off a chip alone, is a fools errand, as you maybe trying to match a chip that is no longer the correct color as original. In addition to that, the primer/sealer coat color can change the final color.
