Well, bit loose or a bit too tight won't matter now as they will be torqued to spec (then check the other side too).

John,
If it's all back together, are you and Annet going on the PACA run to Tuggerah on Sunday?

Mal,
Even if I get the painting done tonight, and the brakes back together tomorrow, brakes bled, etc., I don't have tyres. Don't know whether I am going to get new ones or try to find a couple of decent used ones to get me by for a while. Any Ozzies have any 6:50 X 16's? Say hello for me...while you all are having fun I will probably be working hard (back of hand to forehead)

John - don't be afraid to put a pair of 700-16's on. The additional diameter is good for a couple mph too.

I am all back together and going. My spare has "Dunlop" in some ancient script but it holds air.
May get someone to polish the brake settings. Kinda tired of looking at it right now. Whew! May go with Firestone tyres.....mulling it over.

Those that remember the character in the "Lil Abner" cartoon strip that always had a dark cloud over his head. well that's me.
The nut that came off the broken axle looked like it had once been subject to being put on with a pipe wrench so I elected to get new nuts. After everything was "back together" I noticed the replacement nuts sourced were 1 1/8 and the ones that they replaced were 1 3/8". Since I decided that difference was significant in this particular case, I ordered new ones from one of the usual vendors in the states. Bought a 1 3/8" socket to fit the borrowed 3/4" drive torque wrench. Installed the first new nut without problem. Grabbed next new nut and guess what? 1 1/4" nut. Of course, I didn't have a 3/4" drive 1 1/4 socket...only half inch drive, so now how to torque.....anyway finally got it. Good news is got the new set of tires on today, and the new voltage regulator I installed works great. And all the electical parts are here for the OD. However, my list increased as the head gasket is leaking. So off to auto electrician for the non working horn and starter button, then on to the head gasket. Not sure if I am winning or the car is.....but then I'm stubborn.

John,
Something like "one step forward and two steps back" comes to mind. But the Old Chinese Proverb - "It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward" may be more appropriate. Keep at it!
