Morning all,

Due to an stupid twit who used my tail light as a foot rest, I am now in urgert need of a new tail light stanchion.
('34 1001) It snapped off at the mounting bolts, repair is not possible.

It is the right hand side one; ie the NON-FILLER side.

Any ideas, suggestion on a ASAP replacement?

Sl?n,

Pat.

You might try Chris Charleton up in Maine who had many of the old Brummer molds for reproducing most all of the 34 die-cast parts in bronze - address should be in the CCCA directory or send me a PM for a contact. But those molds go back perhaps 35 years and from what I've heard, most are damaged, lost or simply beyond useful life. If in fact you can get a new repro casting, you'll have to finish grinding and profiling, polish it, and have it chromed. A pretty expensive proposition. And it's a one-year only part.

The 1933 stantion is still in repro I believe, it's different but might be acceptable. Contact Bruce Blevins - contact info in the PAC directory or see his advertisements in PAC publications (or PM me for info).

And be thankful it wasn't the gas filler side.

Where is your license plate tag - left or right? If your car is RHD or an export model, the license plate Tee could be on the right side which could be bad news as not only would it be a one-year part, it would also be an export-car only part.

How about a picture?

Hello Slan:

Owen Dyneto is correct that Bruce Blevins has reproduced this part for a model 1001. You said your car was a "34 1001" but in 1934 that would be an 1101 model.

Anyway, go to this linkpackardsoforegon.com/graphics/EXCEL97%20Version%20Catalog.pdf and go to page 6 and look for part #196944 and see if that is what you need.

The stanchion would be different for a 1934 They are slightly bigger than the 33's. I'm confident someone makes these, but for the life of me, I am drawing a blank. Contact Bruce Blevins for info, he should know.

Pat,

Looked at your Registry entry and see you have a '34 (1101) Club Sedan, so that should solve that.

Next, see "It is the right hand side one; ie the NON-FILLER side."

Then Dave, O_D, mentions "Where is your license plate tag - left or right? If your car is RHD or an export model, the license plate Tee could be on the right side which could be bad news as not only would it be a one-year part, it would also be an export-car only part."

See from a picture you've included in the Photo Archive, pic below, it appears your left side has the licence plate, therefore you require a right side non licence plate stanchion? Please send me a PM, I may have located one for you.

Ill bet the one on the left, with license plate Tee but without the gas tank filler opening, is a rare bird indeed! Perhaps it's an original? Packard had a long-standing habit of using bronze castings for trim parts needed in small quantities - for example the antenna mast to side trim piece on the V8 Caribbeans. There must have been some advantage to offset the higher cost material to casting in bronze for limited #s of items.

Do I see a hole in the side of it?

Dave,

Sharp eyes. Yes, there is a hole in the side. As Wade said "it's been got at!"

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all, I was away for a while on business.

Thank you for your leads in regards scourcing a right hand, non-filler side, tail light stanchon for my '34, non-export, left hand drive car.

My other half has got one from JD in Max Merritt so hopefully it's sorted.

And yes, I normally would 'sort out' a SOB like that but while on wedding duty you must learn to bite your lip and suffer fools gladly.

Sl?n,

Pat.
