What do you think of the following description?


"The mid-Fifties Clipper models tend to be looked upon by some Packard enthusiasts as the red-headed stepchildren of the Packard family, just one step removed from the oft-reviled Packardbakers."

Actually, I've always been kinda partial to red-heads.

X equals "SOME". What number does the word "some" really represent? Seems to me that the author writing that car ad is just taking convenient liberties with their opinions to draw interest. We all have our favorites and I think that mid-century Packards are very beautiful cars. Hope the car sells to someone who will love on the car for years to come. I prefer brunettes.

Those "correct" exhaust deflectors look like they're hanging a little low. Are they as vulnerable as I think they look in that picture. Don't remember seeing them installed nearly as often on V8s as on earlier cars.

As it relates to hobbyists interested in collectibles (excluding those into hot-rodding) it just depends on the time perspective. In the hobby in the 50s and 60s, any postwar car was of little or no interest, they were just "used cars" much as many of us think of cars of the 80s and 90s when we see them at car shows today. A decade or two later, the just postwar cars garnered some interest but folks still thought of the 50s cars as uninteresting. A bit later, folks (Packard folks in this case) looked on the V8 Packards as a abberation, and often said 1954 was the last real Packard. Just depended on where you put yourself in the scale of time.

OK, what about the '56 Executive, half 'senior' and half 'junior'? A Faugh-redhead? And then there's the Studebaker-Packards of '57 and '58, what's the thoughs on these cars? I still love them all and cannot get enough of 'em

Have attended many Packard shows in the last 40 years. A Constellation will get a bit of attention, but my 51 200 might just as well be a Kia. Oh, but what an enjoyable ride home!

Thanks for sharing that ad, those photos of that car sure bring back memories for me. I had one just like that when I was in high school, it was actually the first car I ever bought with my own money. My parents had given me and old ambassador, but the clipper was all mine.

Of course mine was not quite as nice as the one in the ad, but I only paid $200 for it. Mine was number 5567-5611 I sold it in Mendocino County Ca about 1977. I wonder if it will ever turn up.
