It's a Pines Winterfront, shutters are controlled by a thermostat that mounts in the top radiator tank and then connects with linkage to the top of shutters. The system was used by Packard for more than a decade, and also on many other makes of cars of the era with minor changes over the years. Picture attached of the actuation lever that attaches to the thermostat - this from 33-34, yours may be the same or similar.

A few pic's from friend Noel's '39 120, "Fleurette". Sorry I don't have any of the shutter end of the mechanism. But....I do have some from Wade's '34 Eight, "The Fossil". Don't know how much commonality there is between the two mechanisms.

William, the photos already posted look nearly identical to the pushrod on my 39 Six. Your posting mentioned "the top part with the two arms which sits under the maskot thats all." There are also two counter levers that help to transfer the motion to the right and left banks of shutters. I may have a set of these at home and will check when I can (hopefully tonight). I think the 6 and small 8 used the same part.

A very Big - Thank You, to you all for the photo's etc.
they have given me some thing to work by. Pat if you can maybe send me a picture of what you have of the connections to the grill slats it would be a help to me. Thanks Mal for the photo's what would i do without you guys?

I could not locate (yet) any pushrod in my leftover parts, but do have several of the shutter linkages as shown in this photo. Also note, there is supposed to be a spring that goes from the post on the right side of the photo (just below and left of the curved slot) to the left most end of the cross bar above it. This spring is responsible for returning the shutters to the closed position as the radiator cools. The spring is about 1/4 inch in diameter. I thought I had that part also. I will keep looking. Pat - thanx for your help.
i have this part with the arms, but would like to know how to connect under this, to the grill so that they open/close? thanks you for the info of the spring ( did not know about that?) I would of thought that some one out there, would have done this linkage by now. (I was looking for an easy way out) but i will get it to work i must just take my time. Regards Bill

Though not of particular assistance to the original question but still on-topic (sort of), there is an excellent article on the shutter thermostats, the variety of types, construction and repair, and some history on the Fulton Company's Sylphon type used in our Packards.
The article is quite detailed, 8 pages in length, and appears in the March/April 2012 issue of The Flying Lady, the bimonthly publication of The Rolls Royce Owner's Club. If you have an interest, try to get your hands on a copy.

In the photo I posted, the curved slots are there to allow a post from yet more linkage pieces to connect to which are not in the photo. I'll try to get a photo of that, but post an explanation first (I expect there is already a similar photo here at packardinfo. Each of the left shutter slats and each of the right shutter slats are riveted to a left and right flat drive arm that moves all the slats of each pair together. The left and right drive arms each have a post sticking upward that goes through the curved slot in the photo and connects to the left and right push rods in the photo. So, if your chrome slats are removed from the radiator surround, you may want to look for the flat piece that has a rivet hole for each shutter slat. Pat

1939 120, runs fine,just abit of clutch judder on pull off.
and not charging the battery? (will have to sort that out) But she did get to the church on TIME.. Next is the Grill-slats so that it open's and close's with the themostat. I would like to thank all, for your input - keep up the good work
