That's neat, Steve; great job. I'd toss in my vote agreeing with your number. One CAN see why the original poster thought the 'C' might be a 'Q', but I guess it's just a little degradation in the metal that leaves what looks like the 'leg' of a 'Q'. Chris

If it is a 22nd Series engine, with the G prefix, it's also a "288" type engine which requires some modification to fit into Packards designed for "282" type engines. A look at the head, more studs/nuts for a 288 vs a 282, should confirm if it is.

Good afternoon all...I have a question in that I am wondering if the 288 is a better engine or simply an incorrect replacement engine for the car? Will the car be a better driver with the 288, or will it even be noticeable to a driver? Ernie in Arizona

Using a 288 type in lieu of a 282 was a Packard recommendation when a 282 replacement couldn't be sourced. Firewall suffers, depending on how big a hammer is used, in getting it to "fit".
