This is becoming a wonderful thread with so much input. I appreciate all the of the helpful views. However, I will not, repeat not sell this Packard as a parts car. If I did, then it would disappear as a unique and individual expression of the Packard designer's and engineer's art and excellence. When I bought this car nearly 40 years ago, I wanted to restore it to its greatness. I belived in this greatness when I petitioned it for acceptance into the Classic Car Club. Even though I am running out of years to complete my passion, another individual can replace me and bring it back to life. I would rather give it away than sell it for parts...Ken

I am not suggesting you should sell it for parts. I was, however, pointing out the barriers to restoration, i.e., cost vs. value and the likelyhood or unlikelyhood of getting a good price on eBay or any other venue. Put it out for sale with a reserve you think is appropriate and see what it brings. The 1941 Packard 160 is a wonderful driving automobile and maybe some young enthusiast will step up and restore it.

That part wouldn't be entirely true, as there wouldn't be a "first." All 160s were accepted at one time. In addition, it adds nothing to the interest of the car itself. The CaseyRay gets the credit for all the work involved, not the car.

I'm in the camp that this car should not be "parted out." It is a solid restorable car. And, it looks to be rust free (correct me if I'm wrong), which makes it much more desirable to someone who can't afford to have the work done professionally. It will be one hell of a tour car once finished, with the overdrive and powerful engine, and without the headaches of the hydro/electric windows.

As far as the remarks about it costing more to restore than it will be worth when done, that pretty much goes without saying and would be true even if it was a convertible.

Here's a similar car from which all knowledgeable collectors walked away... except my brother, who paid about $8,000 for it. He basically never touched a wrench to a car before in his life, but succeeded in restoring to 95-plus-point condition during a period of two years, having it ready to be on the field during the Packard Clubs 100th Anniversary meet in Warren (to which he drove -- not trailered -- it from Minneapolis). He ended up selling soon after for about what he had in it, which was surprising, but it shows it can be done. In my opinion, that was a lot of work to just end up selling it. He basically restored it without paying himself one dime for labor.

BTW. No, I don't think it was a smart move towing the car home with whatever vehicle that is... International??? Jeep??? .. Especially with all the weight at the back of the trailer!!!!

A lot of good advice. Clearly, almost any antique/classic car can be restored. Success of the project often depends upon the determination,abilities and/or financial resources of the person. Now, I am certain we all would like to know Casey's decision. If he puts it on eBay, I know one person who will be bidding to buy. If he is going to solicit offers, that same person will be anxious to discuss a purchase with him.

The dashboard was THE last one that Bernie Estes did before he passed away. Plastic by Troush.
On the 180, the door sills are 100% wood, with two or three different types of inlaid veneer, plus pewter strips. At least two of the four sils needed to be re-veneered, and he did all the work himself.
