I owned at least three 1940 Packards so know them fairly well and the 1940 linked above is interesting in that it has the early bumper type but the later production trunk emblem. It has the later type wheelcovers too. Also, I thought that the junior grille guard had three cross-pieces so maybe this is the senior type.

Nope. NOt a Senior grille guard.... not for 1940, anyway. Maybe correct for 1939.

Here is a little fun:

Two cars for sale early 60's. Given Bob Turnquist bought a mint 38 V-12 town car around 1949-50 for $85 that works out to 13% gross annual gain. I say gross because that doesn't factor in the capital cost of owning a dry garage, property taxes, up keep; and such which probably drives that net return to close to zero.

Oh, and after the war the eight cylinder cars generally sold for more than the V-12 because they were more practical than the big dinosaur.

1939 Si Convertible Coupe in Reno, NV. Ad says car was frame off restored:

I saw the listing for the last one (the 1939 Roadster) and noticed that the ID plate is a reproduction and is held on with pop-rivets. At least here in California, you would never be able to register it unless the original ID plate is included!

Very nice 1940 120 Convertible Coupe located in MA. If I was in the market for a Packard right now, I would definitely have a look at this one. I believe that this car may have belonged to a late friend of mine back in the early 1980's. It was an extremely solid original car.
