You can download the entire motor number list if interested but here is the pertinent 42 info. Not the 356 but rather the 282.

The C suffix was a change from aluminum to cast iron pistons -- probably due to anticipated war restrictions -- so here are a couple of articles explaining the change.

There is an identification chart at the front of the 1941-47 Clipper parts book.
Engine numbers in the E3xxxxx series are shown as for the 120 Eight which would be a 282.

I have just had it confirmed that the engine did have a rebuild and the pistons fitted were .030 over, and the pistons used were aluminium.

On another subject does anybody have a complete spare steering wheel for sale, mine is in pretty bad state and the chrome horn part is broken.

Howard - I have an excellent uncracked 3 spoke steering wheel at present, along with the aforementioned horn ring and button. I would be happy to work out any deal you suggest to obtain your deluxe wheel in trade.

Well my sender unit finally turned up in the post today, so I connected the sender up with an earth wire and tested it before fitting, the sender worked fine. I fitted the sender to the fuel tank and then fitted the fuel tank back to the car, connecting up the fuel line and the sender unit wires. Just need to buy a couple of cans of gas to tip in the tank. Just a waiting game now, still waiting for all my brake parts to turn up, and a new water pump.

Well I got a bit more done today, I fitted the new brake wheel cylinders, along with the new master cylinder. Just waiting on the new flexi brake pipes, and the new water pump. I have changed the oil in the gear box and in the rear axle. Also changed the engine oil, I will properly change it again after a small run out. Howard
