The last challenge for today, installing the wipers. When I got the car it was missing every part of the wiper system. The wiper motor I got from ebay for $2.25. The wiper arms, towers and transmission arms came from Joel Ray.

I already had the tower gaskets for another model, and just had to slightly trim them.

The towers installed just fine with 6-32 3/4" stainless slotted screws.

The wiper motor was a total pain just trying to figure out the orientation was a challenge. I finally figured out that mounts upside down with the transmission connection towards the firewall. It mounts to two tabs that come down from the cowl. But neither the tabs or the wiper motor are threaded. The tabs have a slot in them. But you really can't reach the topside of those tabs once you put the motor in place. So you can't use a bolt and nut. Not sure what was used originally, but I used a push on style speed clips and 10-24 3/4 screws. But this still required me to be upside-down under the dash facing upwards with a looong screw driver.

With thar bolted in, I was able to connect the transmission arms and install the retainer clip.

Then I went to mount the wiper arms and blades. The arms came with the grouping from Joel. Which I really bought for the towers. Let's just say the arms are too long, and probably for a sedan.

It is hard to tell from the picture but I think the arms will adjust in, they should slide into the base part of the arm. You do however have pretty long wipers themselves. You need 7 1/2" ones. I got mine at Restoration Supply. Part number ACC081. $6.00 each.
(Your frame's chrome is a lot nicer, 85 Canadian winters on mine!)

Bob, I'll check. But also, both those arm actually different. One may be aftermarket.

As far as the windshield frame, I know this must have been rechromed at some point. It's too perfect compared to the rest of the car

Geez Kev, you are on fire right now. Can't believe how much you got done within a short couple days. Making me feel like I'm slow as molasses, lol.

I didn't know the springs for the door handles go under the panel, good to know. Also a good tip on the pins for the handles. I have no pins for mine so I'll keep this in mind when I finally get door panels put back on.

Yes, the springs are important as these style handles 'cock' to lock the doors and without that resistance from the springs against the escutcheons the action of simply closing the door could (does!) result in the door locking itself.
I have the springs for mine and they are EXACTLY the same as the ones in my 58 Pontiac and my 67 Mustang so they are pretty well universal.
I used trimmed welding rod for handle pins in the past too. Just something a bit smaller diameter than the bore to keep the handle in place as the escutcheon traps the pin in place while those same springs keep the whole assembly a neat tight unit.

I continue to be amazed at your rapid work in getting the jigsaw of a car put back together and looking so good! I wish I had half your energy but I guess at twice your age I should be happy for the energy I do have.

Thanks Don. After being twisted like a pretzel under the dash yesterday, I am paying for it today.

The 1/4 20 slotted flat head screws used in the middle steel bows mounting have a .500 max head diameter and 5/8 overall length. The nuts are .200 thick ,maybe jam nuts are this thickness. Hope this helps for your top bow figures.
