I believe one of the Stolzfus's had a two tone tan/brown 41 1903. It is a much more subdued combination than the photo.

there is 41 120 in silver over gray around.

Am I correct in stating that the darker color is on the top in 42 and the brake line is different on the hood? Thats the way I did my 42 110 convertible. I found several original pictures years ago. Dell

When I wanted to duplicate an original 1940 paint color, I contacted PPG auto refinish research. I had the Ditzler (PPG bought Ditzler) formula. They converted it to an Envirobase water-based formula (basecoat/urethane) and sent that to my paint shop.

OK, I am not as familiar with 1942 convertibles as I am with 1941 convertibles, but here goes.

First, I've never seen a two-tone 1941 in any Packard literature, but I have seen a few two-tone 41s after they were "restored." So I don't know were the paint break would be different. I own a convertible sedan and there is NO obvious place for a paint brake - maybe a reason I've never seen it in Packard literature. Could be different for a coupe.

The 1942 Salesmen's Book found on this website shows the darker color on the top and the lighter color on the bottom.
It also shows the standard top color to be khaki with optional colors (add'l cost) of black, blue, gunpowder, red, sage or walnut.

That said I am attaching 2 photos of a 1942 110 convertible coupe with lighter color on the top. Go fugure.

What color combo did you do your 110 in?

Hi Roger; My 42 is done what I understand was an introductory color set for 42, Carlota and Sable brown. I rolled back the cover and took some pictures of the brake lines.

TCP Global has great prices on their paint. If you walk though their warehouse you'll quickly discover that they off load their house brand from PPG drums into gallon cans. While they cannot tell you the house paint is PPG it is quite obvious that it is PPG.

I used their paint on my 901 and paid about 2/3's of what it would have otherwise cost.

Hmmm.....interesting.

That stripe on the hood similar to some of the Clippers of that time period. Not at all like the paint break lines in the period B&W photos that I posted from the digital collection of the Detroit Public Library

Could you share the original photos you mentioned in an earlier post?

And it appears that you convertible top is black. Is that correct?

The best and easiest advice might be to use TCP Global.
Look at the chip colors (relative relationship of one color to another, esp in choosing two-tone schemes).

I think '42 was dark over light. '41 was light over dark. Using identical colors such as Andes Tan and Wilshire Brown.

Roger; Top color is dark brown. I will see if I can find the pictures.

The factory photo of the 1942 convertible shows a preproduction car........Note the 41 type hub caps, script on the hood side (no script on 42 conv. except the. 160 and 180),and the 41 style two tone..
