Mal is correct about the Permits but there were probably ways around them. I have a 38 Packard Six Richards which I purchased in 1972 with 80,000 miles recorded ( $300 ...the good old days) . It even had the optional San-tex seat covers on. I have traced back to 1939, when it was purchased as a "Demonstrater" by a Doctor in Wagga- Wagga NSW ( Rego CA 247 ). It was apparently a Sporting Cars Limited display vehicle at the 1938 Adelaide Motor Show. It has lots of accessories such as banjo steering wheel, Tasma Radio, Packard crested locking petrol cap. It has 127,000 miles on it now and is a nice car to drive. PT

My fellow members have some nice photos and information on overseas dealerships-- does anyone have pictures of the Barbezat Dealership in Paris, France? My 1954 came was delivered from there.I'd love to have one.

DavidM attended the Euro Packard Meet some years back, when it was hosted by France, if I remember correctly one of the Rally stops was the Chateau owned by the Barbezat family. Among the artefacts available to be viewed were some of the records of the dealership. I'll ask David if he can add more.

David,

Thanks for responding.

Gerd,

Thanks for the link to the Barbezat stamp. A great connection back to the Packard dealership in France.

Gerd,
Thanks for the further information about the Barbezat history.
This is the Chateau that we visited where the Barbezat memorabilia was on display.

https://www.labourbansais.com/chateau-jardins/historique/

Its currently a small zoo. The history write up does not seem to make mention of any connection with the Barbezat Packard but I do not speak French .

There was a great photo taken with all of the Packards in front of the Chateauhttp://www.classiccarnetwork.eu/2011PackardEuroMeet/PictureXdNLD/EuroPackardMeet-Bourbansais-Group.jpg

I have attached the hand out we were given when we visited the Chateau in 2011 as part of the Euro Packard Meet

Mal,

The Europeans are not as casual as us about such details, it was owners of Packards at the meet only. Owners who left their Packards at home (in Australia) were not invited to the photo shoot! However not to create the wrong impression we were made most welcome everywhere and our hire car was dubbed a "Plastic Packard" . We had a great time.
