removal of Power steering

I could do with some helpful advise on how to remove the power steering pump on a 1956 Patrician.
At this stage I haven't been able to work out removal or even loosen to put tension on the belt. I can see the slot in the bracket on the block that allows you to adjust the tension but for the life of me I cannot work out what else has to be removed to achieve that.
What I am trying to do is replace the water cooling hose and to give me better access to that I thought I would remove the power steering pump. I have checked in the archives but haven't been able to find anything to help.

There is 1 bolt up top.

And just 2. Bolts. Both 9/16ths.

You need to sneak in to get top one.

I use an extension. With a wobble..

Did you check with Peter Toet? Besides being PACA's Technical Officer, he has a '56 Pat in his fleet, so might have some hands on experience.

Thanks for your advise. I get what you are saying re the 3 x 1/16th bolts. however I am at a loss to understand what has to happen to move the pump while it is still bolted to the adaptor flange that will allow me to take the tension off the belt and remove same.

The pump with the adapter bracket is retained to the engine with only two bolts, one of which is for the slotted adjustment, the other is where the bracket and pump pivot. 9/16 heads. Remove those two bolts and swing the entire thing out of the way on its hoses. Do not attempt to remove the pump from the bracket.

Hello Mal, My 56 Patrician has only 53,000 miles from new but, has been converted to RHD with a Ford Fairlane power steering set-up, which is quite different to the Monroe pump. I believe that Geoff is looking to replace the upper oil heat exchanger cooler hose. My Patrician no longer has the heat exchanger fitted but has a front mounted air cooled heat exchanger. I would prefer the original set up and shall do this perhaps one day.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Shall do, I have also installed the Olds oil pump and have fitted a diesel alternator with vac pump which gives great vacuum wipers.

Did your alternator combo with vac pump need an external oil supply for the pump and if so, where did you pick it up? One I bought needs an oil supply and was thinking if it ever gets installed, since the car has factory AC and filter is just above the generator location plumbing the filter return thru the pump could possibly work. What info I could find is not very helpful as to amount or pressure needed by the pump.
