Kev,

The official count is twenty five of the 2653s at PAC. More importantly is Enos? Derham's hand written reply stating twenty five were done for the Packard factory and five or six for export.

I have also sent the information to PAC but no reply yet.

You have posted photographs of one, that's all I have been able to find online. So this maybe only the third Formal to survive. I plan on photographing the car tomorrow and hope to have images up by the end of the week.

Glad you caught the 2652/53 thing. Certainly adds some more interest to the car. Derham said they converted twenty five for Packard and it has a Derham nameplate on the left front fender. Gotta love Curtiss Wright.

That is why I am wondering if it was a post-factory conversion.

My neighbor owns the car, she and her late husband owned three Packards, a 1937 120 convertible, she forgets what the second was, and the Formal. They decided to keep the Derham as it "was the most fun to drive"......Her late husband's mother was a Packard (cousin to James Ward and William) which was what motivated him to start collecting Packards.......
G'day Stephen,
to PackardInfo and for intending to include your '53 Packard in the Packard Owner's Registry. An interesting connection there to the Packard heirarchy.

The current PAC directory only lists two 1953 Derhams, one a 2652 and one a 2653. The one I saw in Nyack back in the 60s was a 2653, but sadly I didn't record any other information or even take a picture; my 34 Eight had cost me $900 and $10,000 for the Derham was miles beyond my wildest dreams at the time.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind input. And thanks for the welcome mate.

There is other correspondence between Turnquist and the late owner of the car (I'll post it later if there is any interest) and he cites the SN. I find it very interesting that neither Turnquist or Enos Derham make any reference to car NOT being a Formal because it is a 2652.

So it looks there is now a third 1953 Derham Formal and with a white top no less.

I have a number of other photographs I made today. The scanned images of the car were taken behind the Albright Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo in the early seventies.

The tarp over the car is custom made for the Formal. I also hold high hope that the engine is free looking at the dipstick. Not bad for twenty eight year old oil. The car was put away clean.

Hmmm interesting. I would have never expected a brown interior.
