Interesting article but I was rather amused at the misplaced "only" as it changed the entire meaning!

Quote:
Packard only produced 446 Twelve models in 1939

This means that Packard produced nothing else but the Twelves when the actual text should have been:

Geez, Don, when I see the spelling errors, word misuse and grammatical errors and omissions that go on in everyday, written communications, your 'pet peeve' on the misplacement of 'only' in a sentence, would seem 'a little strict' by today's standards!! LOL I definitely get your point and agree with you, but in this age of texting abbreviations and a seeming departure from any regard for 'proper English', your disapproval may fall on a lot of deaf ears!!! Chris.

It's from years of being an editor and record producer and having studied several foreign languages. When you do that, you end up also learning your own language better than is necessary to get by as most people do. One of the things I like about this site is that people who post here, for the most, part are very literate while on other forums I can hardly figure out what they're saying.

Trust me Don, I DO appreciate what you are saying. All I'll add, is that if most posters would give their compositions a quick 'proof read', before hitting 'submit', a great deal of the typos and misspells would get corrected. I know I catch a lot of mistakes when I check my submissions prior to posting.

Agree wholeheartedly with "newbie". Although only a one fingered typist, I make a lot of mistakes. Fat fingers are my excuse. Although missing words completely or even weird words being typed can't be explained by that excuse. Use of the preview button, below, saves me all the time.

I use two fingers but am dyslexic and not a good typest or writer but I try to proof-read whatever I write if it's to be readable. Eve with the proofing errors and typos are still there so I have to go back to correct them when I can although some are in postings that I can no longer edit. Typos are mistakes but none of this has anything to do with knowing one's own language. As I mentioned, this seems to be a very literate site which probably goes to show the intellectual nature of the kind of people who like Packards. Obviously not everyone here speaks English natively but those of us who do . . .
