This forum has been extremely useful to us in the past. We have inherited at 1929 Packard 640 and we are looking for throttle linkage between the firewall and carburetor. Does anyone know where we might find these parts?

G'day Hank,
to PackardInfo, but sorry I can't assist with your request.

Do have a request of you though, in light of "This forum has been extremely useful to us in the past" could you please include your '29 640 in the Packard Owner's Registry here, together with a pic, any known history and how you acquired it?

Please tell us more about the 6-40. What body style is it? Is there a dealer name on the data plate? Thanks.

It is a 5 passenger sedan that we are learning about. My father in-law did a body off restoration in 60's, but he never had the correct carburetor. Now since we have found the right carburetor, we don't have the correct linkage.

There is another 1929 640 red Packard convertible coupe being restored near me that I have looked at to figure out which parts I needed. They have used some of our parts for patterns. I have up loaded some photos (not the best quality--poor lighting) to help identify the parts that I am looking for.

That sure looks like the same linkage that is on my 29 626. I would say if you could get the ends, the shaft would be common. Will look at the carb to shaft end and see if it also is something that could be made/copied.

Hank:

I had the same problem recently with my 640 Phaeton. The previous owner ran a later carb and had discarded the shaft. I was able to make one from a shaft of the right size and some bell crank fittings that I had laying around. A lot of grinding and some welding. Looks original. You will also need the bracket that goes on the rear of the manifold to support the end of the rod that is toward the back of the car. If you are missing that, I may have an extra.
